We’ll talk with Charlie Parker historian Phil Schaap about Bird’s life and music—from his early years as a Kansas City kid who didn’t like to practice to his coronation in the 1950s as the king of bebop. And we’ll explore the drug addiction that plagued and finally claimed the life of this legend of the saxophone and sit down for a conversation with contemporary sax icon Joe Lovano about why Bird still matters.
